Assessment Cycle & Appeals

2026 Assessments & Appeals Status

The deadline to file an appeal for your 2025 assessment has passed, and our office is now actively working on 2026 assessments. To ensure you receive all timely updates and notifications from our office, we encourage you to sign up for the Assessor Email List.

Publication of Assessments

York Township’s annual multiplier and assessment changes are published in our local newspapers, typically in September or October. We prioritize keeping our assessment publication consistent to ensure transparency for our residents. However, because the volume of assessments we review fluctuates each year, an exact publication date cannot be set in advance.

Before Filing an Appeal

If you believe your property is over-assessed, please contact the York Township Assessor’s Office first. A discussion with the Township Assessor or a Deputy Assessor can often resolve your concerns directly at the Township level, saving you the need to file a formal appeal.

Reasons to Appeal

You might have basis for an appeal if you can prove:

  • Your assessed value is higher than the property’s actual market value.
  • The assessment is based on inaccurate information (e.g., incorrect lot or building dimensions).
  • Your assessment is disproportionately higher than similar surrounding properties.
The Formal Appeal Process

If your concerns cannot be resolved directly with our office, you can pursue a formal appeal by following these steps:

  1. Gather Your Evidence: Determine your home’s fair market value. You can use a professional appraisal, recent sale prices of comparable properties (from the last 3 years), or actual construction costs for new builds.
  2. Verify Your Assessment Level: In York Township, properties are assessed at 33.33% (one-third) of their actual market value. Use our Property Record Search to check your current assessed value.
  3. File with the County Board of Review: Once the assessments are published in the newspaper, you or your agent have exactly 30 days to file a written complaint with the DuPage County Board of Review.
    • Where: 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, IL 60187.
    • How: Forms must be printed and mailed. Faxed or emailed forms are not accepted. All appeals must be postmarked on or before the deadline.
