General Assistance Home

Township government was formed for the purpose of assisting low income, homeless, and unemployed residents. Today’s General Assistance program is funded through real estate taxes.  The term came out of the Social Security Act of 1935, stating that if a person does not fit into categories administrated by Social Security or Department of Human Services, they fell into a “general” category; hence the term General Assistance.

Emergency Assistance with food, rent, utilities, and medications is available to qualified residents. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (L.I.H.E.A.P.) applications are taken from September to May, or depending on available funding.  The General Assistance office operates a food pantry based solely on private contributions, please visit the pantry page for more information.

To meet with a caseworker, please call 630-620-2400 for an appointment, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
