Our Transportation Program has been proudly serving our seniors since 1976. The availability of transportation enables seniors to live independently and helps prevent isolation. It is our goal to ensure access to essential services such as medical care and grocery shopping in the safest, most cost-effective ways possible. Our fleet of five town cars and one wheelchair accessible passenger bus averages over 10,000 rides per year. For a nominal fee, seniors can be driven within the Township boundaries for medical appointments, their shopping needs, and any other appointments they might have. We are very proud of our model Transportation Program and trust we will be able to continue providing you with quality, safe, personalized service.
If you have any questions about our service or policies, please call us at 630-620-2413.
The following guidelines are needed to maintain the quality of service we provide.
Who Can Ride
The program is open to seniors 55 years of age and older who reside in York Township. This includes all of Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, and small sections of Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, and Westmont.
Hours Of Operation
Ride service is available Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Reasonable Fares
One-way essential rides to a grocery store or medical appointment will cost $3 each way.
One-way non-essential rides for general shopping, hair salon or non-medical appointments will cost $4 each way.
Rides to and from York Township will remain $2 each way.
Reservations Required
Please make reservations in advance to make sure that we can accommodate you. For Senior Center parties and outings, notify our office as soon as you purchase your tickets. For medical appointments we recommend that you make your reservation with us the same day you make the appointment with your doctor.
When making a reservation, keep the address and phone number of your destination handy. If your trip is for medical reasons, we will need the name of your doctor along with the address, phone number, and time of appointment.
The daily ride schedule depends on availability of drivers, vehicles and practical routing.
Keep A Written Record
You will be given a pickup time and return time. We strongly urge that you write down this information as we can no longer accept calls to verify the schedule. We have been deluged with repeat calls of this type that continually tie up the phone lines.
Plan To Be Ready Early
Please be ready 15 minutes before your scheduled ride. However, since the drivers usually pick up several people within one time slot, they are on tight schedules and cannot always be on time. Please do not call the office to check unless the driver is over 15 minutes late.
When you are with a large group, wait for the driver to call your name before entering the vehicle. The driver will take only those people who are on his/her schedule.
Return Trips Home
On shopping trips, we ask that you assist the driver with your grocery bags. Please limit your groceries to 4 paper bags or 7-8 plastic bags.
If your medical appointment runs overtime due to circumstances beyond your control and you are not ready for the pickup, we will try to reschedule for a later time but no later than 3:00 p.m.
Changes or Cancellations
If we need to change your scheduled time, we will call you the day before or on the morning of your ride. If you need to cancel or change a ride please do so as early as possible so we have the opportunity to fill that slot with another rider. Space is limited and we fill up quickly.
