Welcome to the York Township Senior Center Activity Page. In the drop-down boxes below, you will find all the current activities for our seniors 55 and over. No tax dollars are spent to run our senior activities. All instructors are volunteering their services, some class instructors change a nominal fee. If a fee is charged it is paid each time you participate in that class directly to the instructor. If you have any questions about an activity listed below, please contact the Senior Center at 630-620-2424.

Books Reading Our library is filled with over 500 donated books and magazines available for your reading pleasure. There are also computer stations with free internet access and lots of puzzles to enjoy. Come open your world to a lifetime of learning.

Neo Tai Chi

Please join Instructor Mark Drysch, who has 20 years of experience in the martial arts and Tai Chi for a weekly class. Neo Tai Chi is based on the symmetry of the martial arts and the soft, flowing movements of Tai Chi. The 96 movements of the Neo Tai Chi form create a feeling of relaxation and well-being. It is intended to boost the immune system, strengthen the muscles, improve flexibility, and balance, and enhance breathing; the movements are all gentle and non-impact.

This is your opportunity to take brush in hand and create on canvas or paper. The artist may choose oil, acrylic, or watercolor paints, or try all of them. This is a studio environment for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced artist. All participants will be given individual attention and be working at their own pace. Explore your enjoyment of painting with Mary Pat Groce. Bring any supplies you may have or pick up a list of suggested items and places to buy them. Space is limited.

Come enjoy a game of pinochle; a classic card game with bidding, meld and taking tricks to score points.

T'ai Chi Ch'uan

Every Monday
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Practice balance and concentration with the gentle, flowing movements of classical T’ai Chi Ch’uan. Taught by Tai Chi Master Susie Huang, this ancient Chinese series of 24 forms or postures can improve balance and strength.
In recent years, Western medicine has also recognized T’ai Chi as a natural way to lower blood pressure, improve coordination, and maintain general good health and mobility. Put on your sneakers, bring a bottle of water, and join us in the gym for a new experience with ancient roots.Tai Chi

Woodcarving is rewarding, fun and can actually be a great workout! You build upper body strength with every project by using your hands and arms constantly while working. Not only does it work out your body but it works out your brain too! The creativity aspect of woodcarving allows you to flex your brain muscles and help you stay sharp by constantly having to think and plan especially if you make a mistake and have to improvise or adapt the look of your project.
You want to have a good collection of tools to make it easier to tackle any project you set your mind to. We suggest starting with a basic carving set and then acquiring more tools as you progress in interest and skill.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga invites you to find mobility in a way that is soft and gentle but also supportive and beneficial. Let instructor Pamela Meyers ground your mind and body with this chair flow. We invite awareness and integrity into the body. Open your hips, move your shoulders, and neck, and find length in your spine with this chair yoga flow.

Yuan Ji Dance

Every Monday 2:15 – 4:15 p.m.
&  Wednesday 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Chinese Yuan Ji Dance is a mixture of martial arts, Tai Chi, physical therapy, meditation, and traditional Chinese dance. It contains easy to learn movements and elegant music. It is a gentle whole-body work-out which is especially suited for senior citizens.
In recent years, Yuan Ji Dance has been one of the most popular exercises in Taiwan and it is also very popular in Chinese communities on both the east and west coasts of the United States. In our 2-hour session, the first half will be devoted to simple and easy Yuan Ji exercises, which most people believe is the most beneficial to their health. The second half will be devoted to more interesting and challenging dance steps.

Zumba Gold

Join ACE Group Fitness Certified Zumba Gold Instructor and Certified Health and Wellness Coach Allison Hammond-Schwarz and “party yourself into shape”.
Zumba Gold is the Zumba Fitness program for active seniors that’s everything a traditional Zumba class is-an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin inspired, calorie burning dance fitness party-but in this class we take it just a little easier and we also work on posture and balance. Join us for fun, fitness, excitement, and friendly camaraderie!

Join instructor Kathy Wierer as she teaches you the basic steps to easy-to-learn line dances. Kathy has been an instructor at the Township for many years, and we are happy to have her back teaching the grapevine again.
